I’m sorry, but they do not deserve royalties. The number of people involved in getting a good performance is staggering. Even full performance capture requires a ton of people to clean the data and fully animate. Voice acting is important but doesn’t define a game.

Depends on the game. If you have a bunch of different versions and bundles the lead time is definitely needed. There are only a handful of places that can actually produce hard copies and publishers negotiate with first party to get theirs printed in time for packaging and sale.
