Friday the 13th on NES, played at night in those first few hours, trying like hell to get your characters equipped with more then rocks and knives, because Jason could appear out of fucking nowhere, just like the movies and if you didn’t have a decent weapon and some healing potions, you were fucked.
I can sympathize. I was (and to some degree, still am) a horror wuss as a kid. I’m a lot better about it now, largely because I have a better understanding of how horror elements work (I love horror fiction, but not so much films; I jump-scare easily).
