I guess it depends on your definition of evil. Personally, I believe many of the things he did or tried to do as Mayor of Toronto while lying through his teeth was more than just stupid. More importantly, he abused his spouse and I think someone who does that is pretty evil.

Yes, you’re right about those points and I believe Harper would have been more upfront about his misogyny and racism if he had thought he could get away with it in Canada. He is not as dumb as Trump appears however and he at least knew how the government operates.

Thank you. Dad never told us the circumstances of his coming to Canada so I only discovered this a few years ago when I found my cousin in Glasgow and he knew the name of the orphanage. Very sad and explains a lot about some of the demons he struggled with his entire life.

I can trace my father’s family back to the 1400s in Scotland. He was an orphan who was sent to Canada as a British Home Child to work on farms as an indentured servant because no relatives could afford to take him or his siblings in when his father died.

His father is from Greenock. Not a wealthy town by any stretch and his grandfather and likely most other male relatives worked in the shipyard. That is working class.
