I agree, and that is likely precisely why they omitted or lied, but due to their choices they guaranteed his acquittal.

It is not the job of the Crown to investigate complainants. Can you imagine the outrage if every time a victim reported a sexual assault, their hard drives were confiscated and examined? Its absurd to suggest such a thing.

The defense strategy of raising doubt to the credibility of the witnesses is what any defense attorney will and should do. It could hardly have been a surprise to the Crown. What likely was a surprise was that the witnesses lied, omitted and colluded.

i don’t think you can blame the Crown for not knowing that their star witnesses had been dishonest when making their statements and during their testimony.

Security certificate have been part of immigration laws in Canada since 1978 and were amended in 1991 and 2002. Jean Chretien was Minister of Industry, Trade and Commerce in 1978 and the Immigration Minister was Jack Sydney George Cullen so they were not ‘his doing.’
