These kind of promotions are just weird... There is no real reason why they are using shaving gel for Assassin's Creed. If it were closer to a plot device/item, than maybe.

I think this has to do with the Majority of the players not being able to access its online content, while Destiny's issues are actually in the minority. It just looks like a lot more since Destiny has a lot more players.
