I think the biggest factor is that active local group. Most people I play with now are in a similar situation to me, working adults who are nostalgic that may or may not have kids in tow to play. Lots of help available with trading, strategy, and organizing raid trains on event days.

Alolan Raichu isn’t an easy solo, but once you get more levels it’s easy with a solid squad of ghost types. Glass canon Gengars (Shadow Claw is no longer a legacy move), Giratina Origin, or MewTwo (with legacy shadow ball) at level 30+ will take care of it in short order.
