Its only muddled if you are entirely incapable of understanding context.

I loved her part in The Avengers. The reverse interrogation that introduces her? Amazing. Her showdown with Banner, who could easily kick her ass? Very dramatic and fun to watch. The scene after Hawkeye’s “recalibration”? A+

It’s sad, because Whedon has such an amazing track record with female representation.

This is dumb. There was controversy over Widow’s story line in AoU, sure. But Whedon was the first person to get the character at all right - Widow in The Avengers is worlds above Widow in Iron Man 2.

I think that’s excessive. Whedon isn’t flawless and he’s certainly not the only director who could do justice to a Black Widow movie, but he sure as shit could do it well. Ultron had plenty of issues, but i’d argue they were structural instead of character issues. The guy still does an admirable job of presenting

They also forget that Scarlett Johansson was pregnant while Age of Ultron was being shot which limited which scenes she was able to do. But it’s always easier to demonise Whedon and blame him for everything.

Yeah that scene is misquoted all the damn time. People keep forgetting that there are a few sentences of important stuff between "I can't have children" and "I'm a monster"

“This was especially noticeable in Age of Ultron, where Black Widow’s primary source of conflict was feeling like a monster because she couldn’t have children”
