If it’s available in your area, I can not recommend the Flash Foods app enough. Participating stores submit inventory they would otherwise throw out and it’s marked down to at least half of, then set aside in a designated spot in the store, usually by customer service or self checkout. You buy it on the app, go to…

For staples I do pick up, while using the store app, and staring at my pantry, or add to it over the week as I notice what I need, and double check it.

For perishables like fruit, veggies, produce, I try to shop in person, its generally a lot easier to know what produce you have.

Its more efficient that way.
