I'm a fan of the central American hats that are basically bowlers but by virtue of their knit construction can be shaped and bent quite a bit. Knit rather than felt makes them inherently more casual as well – a good or bad thing according to taste and need.

True story: middle-school theater, the spring thing where all the parents come, and a guy nailed me with a squirt gun in the crotch just before going on. Laughter etc and yeah I went on and sang a fucking song with stained trousers and it was one of the most humiliating things I have ever experienced.
