Work gives us the week between Christmas and New Years as holidays (and makes up for it by not giving us another paid holiday until Memorial Day).

With older kids or adults, a box of the 80's, 90's or Millenium Trivial Pursuit cards are great for killing time. Just read the questions and see who can answer. In larger groups, divide up into teams by row/side of the car (or bus with really big groups) and keep score.

Drinking lots of cold water helps me. Zero calories and the cold helps keep me awake as does having to get up to use the restroom at regular intervals. Chewing gum, doing some pushups or situps during short breaks are also helpful.
