A really bold move would be mass resignation.

When I was at my super New-Englandy New England university, I had a classmate who reminded me of Bunny Corcoran (I had just read the book in preparation for attending.) Blond, blue eyed, athletic but not too hot, dumb but not too dumb. Shortly after his first year, he committed suicide. It turned out he was seriously

Yikes, I don’t think I know anybody who *liked* American Beauty even after it first came out

Am I the only one who thinks it would have been nice for them to cast actors with skin darker than a cardboard box for any of the lead roles? This new cast just looks like the old cast but a couple people have darker tans. Even in an attempt to be more “woke” they still can’t bother to cast dark-skinned actors.

Ahh the struggles of those born between 1982-1985. I know this feeling well.

I dunno if I’d call either of them “starlets” - that seems a little bit patronizing. They are both *rather* successful actresses and personalities. Framing it this way also gives Waititi a sort of a status bump he doesn’t exactly deserve.

I vaguely remember that story about the coin. It makes me think that the fact it only took somebody four years to solve this “impossible” puzzle is kind of an anticlimax, regardless of what was in the chest.

I also like to hold on to the day he had to report to prison, with the knowledge that he’d be spending many years there. The fact that he didn’t ultimately spend that many years doesn’t erase that day.

Ehhhhhhh some words have escaped their origins pretty thoroughly. Trying to convince people it’s a slur to call someone (or something) crazy or stupid or dumb is fuel for the fire of people who claim “wokeness” is being weaponized against average people going about their business. Basically every word used in place of

Do you think students at YLS might be interested in the fact that one of their professors anonymously told a reporter at a national publication that “there are a lot of mediocre students at Yale who were superstars in their little county fairs, and now they’re in the Kentucky Derby and they’re not winning their races

What’s worse is that many systems are structured to allow for this type of wretched behavior.”

I don’t think so. They aren’t going to give her a dime because this lawsuit is beyond frivolous.

What are the chances that well-stocked bar is in her bedroom?

I wonder if the bar association would have an opinion about an attorney telling the national media that his own client is “fucking retarded” and has “brain damage.”

It frustrates me that good interviewing is less valued than an interview conducted by someone with a “persona” or an agenda or their own celebrity that needs tending. Terry Gross does not really have a persona and she is a fabulous interviewer. Why did Prince Harry go on Dax Shepherd’s show as opposed to Fresh Air? I

Without reading the article I will charitably assume this has something to do with making up for the difference in gas tax paid, which does fund a lot of the road/infrastructure work, so as a general rule I am not opposed to assessing a special tax on electric vehicle ownership.

I love thinking about all these idiots buying this book just to “support” the “canceled” white male author, and maybe half of them will attempt to read it, and at least half of those will immediately say “wait . . . he’s . . . some writer? and . . . he’s Jewish? Nah.”

I am pretty sure the NYPD actually had to sue the Pride organization to be allowed to march in the first place.

Honestly what other explanation is there. This essay is cute and all but nah, they are all DEEPLY narcissistic.

I am getting really frustrated watching people describe this process as the republican party destroying itself. I hate to bring this up but the party is pretty darn likely to retake the house and senate very soon, they hold overwhelming majorities in lots of state legislatures, and are gleefully planning redistricting
