Am I the only one who thinks that if COVID were substantially more deadly, or more likely to infect non-elderly people (we know that IS likely, but if it were more likely, and if they were more directly impacted) we would actually have fewer deaths, not more? People like this need to have the shit scared out of them

To be fair, most of the people who actually run things and make all the money live many miles away from the hellscape you describe

Yes but most of them weren’t news stories that actually stayed on CNN or in NY Times or other mainstream sources for more than a week, most of them didn’t involve the police charging anyone or even looking very carefully for anyone, etc. Most of the stories where someone doesn’t die seem to pass through the media

This is basically what I was getting at. Stuff like this obviously happens all the time and there are people who are always paying close attention, but the mainstream media is not always paying close attention even today, so I am always interested to see what catches fire and becomes a big story. It is hard not to

That’s fair, by “we” I meant the mainstream media/society at large, not every person on this blog etc. The guy in central park was in the news for a long time. He was interviewed by the NY Times and other big outlets, etc. I would suggest that the reason for that, ultimately, is that he was connected and well off,

I moved from a very expensive city where I made too much money to a much cheaper city where I took a huge pay cut. I got like $100 from the first stimulus payment even though my salary was actually well below the level where I was entitled to the full amount. I am anticipating/hoping that I’ll get the remainder of

Can’t help but think we are only following this story because the black man involved is relatively well-off and has some measure of fame. If this was just some random guy and his son who happened to be black, let alone (for example) a poor black family, or a guy who had any kind of police record, or an employee of the

And this is already in a context where 100,000 people is like, 0.05% of her total followers

I live close to a mall that’s not exactly dying but has seen better days. It was built right near my city’s downtown, which of course was immediately destroyed, but thankfully downtown is now thriving while the mall is sputtering.

I said this elsewhere but I have already seen plenty of chatter on facebook about how this Letlow guy had a heart attack that had nothing to do with COVID and this is all a fake news operation.

Needless to say, the handful of conservative friends I have on facebook are circulating posts claiming he must have had some kind of underlying heart condition and he died of a heart attack that had nothing to do with the COVID.

In the interest of giving equal time to another story here, I am now profoundly sad about the life Iggy Azalea’s baby has in front of him. If an infant is already been used as a prop in an instagram fight between two trashy people with a tenuous grip on fame, things are not moving in a good direction.

I just watched the 1995 Sabrina over the weekend, and at one point she says something to the effect of “Paris is my home,” and I literally snorted because she had just finished, like, a 6 month internship there.

Italy and Spain were brown countries until remarkably recently.

I hate to say this but this entire situation demonstrates, to me, that Trump hasn’t really been “the bad guy” this entire time.

I am willing to consider the possibility that Mitt Romney is as little as 90% terrible.

This is the whole way these museums are envisioned, created, and set up. The federal government is not going to foot the entire bill and quite frankly I don’t think they should. Having a mix of public and private income is the ideal even in an institution that’s more-or-less “sponsored” by the federal government. This

I have boycotted Walmart and Amazon, successfully and with very little personal downside, for more than a decade. I know that people in small towns or rural areas or whatever don’t have the same luxury, but for people living in any urban area of more than 100,000 people it is NOT HARD to do this. Perhaps the fear many

It’s okay, there’s some word salad in the original post too, at least you aren’t getting paid to write this comment

Yeah this is just a stopped clock being right twice a day.
