I was lucky enough to attend both Goodwood and Le Mans this year (my 4th time) and I would argue that Goodwood is better for spectating as you can fairly easily get a viewing spot of the hill climb, plus the village there is quite family friendly and people are better behaved while the cars displayed in the paddock

This will be a bitch to de-barf-ify.

Capital Beltway. Driving @ 55 MPH will get you shot. Plus the entitled express lane users are allowed to zip at 65. What gives?

Just a tiny caveat: those aren't firm orders, yet.

Now playing

Peugeot 504. Ask a few hundred thousand Africans and cross-Sahara drivers.

Yeah but at that time Renault was a 100% government owned company, and France had a handful of Communist govt ministers, such as the secretary of Transportation. So technically the R5 turbo is a commie car.

DS tailgate is the best tailgate (with two license plates)

AMC/Renault Encore. Very slow clap.

As a kid in the 80s, during a road trip through Europe, our RV's muffler developed a rust hole. My unfazed father mended it with an applesauce tin can he emptied and cut in half. He attached it with wire he cut out from the Autobahn fence. Other instant tricks he pulled during a trip through the Sahara desert: sand

Jason, thanks for this. Now please take on Audi for their gross misrepresentation of the R18. This is a real R18. Brown turbo manual wagon for maximum jalopness.

As a former owner, acceleration and momentum for such a big car was impressive to me. But I agree that even a 15 year younger Highlander V6 was a rocket in comparison.

Come on, Doug, FJ80's (91-92) are indeed slow, but FZJ80's (93-97) kick ass. 215 hp IIRC from a very very torquey 4.5 liter I-6 mean that they're no slouches, especially for such heavy beasts. And shut up about the awesomeness of those rigs, now their value will shoot up even more!

Seconded.

I used to be a member of the WH press pool and rode in those motorcades a few dozen times. True, most drivers were awfully young and clearly not Secret Service trained. In fairness the motorcade doesn't drive that fast (60 mph on the FDR, 70 on Interstates) but I do remember fearing for my life once in VA when an

The AMC Renault Encore didn't warrant any. And five years later the company was six feet under.

Strong contender: the '70s Peugeot 504 diesel, especially with the 3-speed slushbox. The only car I drove in which, on a moderate grade climb, pedal to the metal didn't make any difference whatsoever. But once it hits 55, it'll stay there forever. (photo credit: TTAC)

On behalf of two generations of French kids who grew up nauseated on the back seats of the (however glorious) Citroën DS, I'd like to file a dissenting opinion.

Peugeot 505 4x4 Dangel.
