May it please the court: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, select, start.
If it is any consolation I’ve giving a talk about the 19th amendment, and I was just reading about how the North Carolina anti-suffragists didn’t start to organize their opposition movement until the amendment had been ratified by 35 of the necessary 36 states. That’s right, they began their most vehement…
Being voted the most boring woman in Britain is the highest compliment one can ever hope to achieve.
RIP Anonymous Iraqi children, women, men. I’m sorry we, as bystanders, are not able to know your names and stories. I’m thinking of yous here in the western world. I cannot imagine living in a place where this is a real, constant fear. RIP.
Did you do it while black, though?
I think in a lot of cases, even non white folks have been aggressively socialized to see WW as victims in any situation, and have little to no sympathy for black women. It’s really, really fucked up, and it’s not going away if we don’t call it what it is.
A lot of commenters are really missing the point that the mothers of Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin*, Eric Garner, Mike Brown, and on and on and on managed not to attack any reporters even when they began flocking to report on their children’s deaths. There is another factor besides grief here, and it’s called whiteness.…
Theranos just sounds like a Greek tragedy.
I’m not sold on her as an awesome person so much as a talented comedian who happens to champion some of the same issues as me, so maybe?

A rapriest.
Way to talk about a four-year-old you’ve never met, just for existing. Sheesh.
My daughter is almost 9 and she legit thinks that women are not allowed to be president because that must be why we haven’t had one by now. I’m going to let her stay up late tonight and watch.
She also once asked me who the first black president was. I said, Barack Obama, and she said “I know he is one of them, but…
What are you saying?! You think all Braavosi look alike?!?
Think of it this way...this is an unusual story, people were punished for harming this girl, and the general consensus of people reading about it is one of disgust. That was not always the case. That is not the case in some parts of the world right now. Things are getting better, but slowly.
It’s sort of fun. I recommend giving them things like “The Golden Compass”.
I know that was brutal. One of the websites had an interview with the producers and they have a consultant who guided them thru that episode, that’s pretty much how it happened back then in Mother Russia.
Wonderful news! This is one of my all time favorite television shows. I hope we will get some insight or a first hand look at (Poor) Martha’s new life. I am also really interested in seeing how they handle Henry as he gets older.
If you liked Mad Men, you’ll enjoy The Americans. As well as Mad Men portrayed the 60s in a way that was not overt (any other show would have foreshadowed Kennedy’s assassination, Mad Men just had it in the background on tv until someone noticed, just like in real life), so does The Americans portray the early 80s.…
