Buying anything is 'promotion of the rich' by that logic.

Can I just ask why? What is it about these superhero films that they've seem to become the main dish in our pop culture? Maybe it's because I didn't grow up in the US but I really don't understand why we need so many of these films.

My favourite thing about this film so far is how personally insulted people of a libertarian/conservative bent seem by it. There's a whole spectrum of aggrieved reactions. From a kind of tired disappointment that it's 'hate the rich' again to seeing someone actually defend the segregation and the right to shoot down

I think it's important to remember the depiction between endorsing and depicting. Just because it looks problematic and our uncomfortable to our eyes it doesn't necessarily mean what we think it means. It also doesn't mean that the show wants you to think it's a good thing.
Ultimately I think this issue is the

There's a certain resemblance to Maximilian's armour there. Eventhough her costumes for that film (or any project) were quite expressive they were also influenced by art and fashion history. My favourite example perhaps is the Gustav Klimt robe Gary Oldman wears at one point.

Even if it isn't a complete wreck, I can't help but think this film should have been directed by Werner Herzog.

The possibilities are endless really, the man has range. But he certainly knows how to play a good villain. Although, do we really need Mark Hamill to play an older Luke?

As you said the film is doing well, but I think everybody just sort of overestimated the likelihood of the huge success they were aiming for. Everything you mentioned above could be responsible for that. Part of the problem is, I think, that the word Star Trek has indeed gotten to stand for impenetrable technobabble

That monster at the top of the article bears a distinct resemblance to this concept for Smaug made back when Del Toro was still working on The Hobbit.

It's interesting reading the interview how he tried to accommodate the production designer, who wanted 'three flying towers'. The problem with these designs though is the lack of any sense of front, or back or recognisable engines. The Narada in the previous film wasn't a typical spaceship either, but visually it made

I think the point is that this film seems less written than cynically constructed from whatever parts of previous films will most appeal to the desired target audience. Combined with that laundry list of celebrities for the cast, the not very stylistically cohesive character design and the fact that they had so little

While I'm glad it wasn't a landslide win, I can't help but feel that most people in the city I live in are stupidly out of touch. The major (and quite thoroughly discredited) reason for the no voters was the whole 'I don't want any chemicals in my water!'-argument. The city was blanketed with posters displaying that

I really don't see the problem with that little guy. He doesn't get any major storylines, he doesn't open his mouth. He's not intentionally cute looking. He's a harmless, crusty looking small alien friend of Scotty's who just happens to climb on things sometimes.

No, it's because while they actually shot the live action in widescreen, the special effects were all done on a different resolution. Meaning that they would have to completely redo every bit of computer animation for a blu-ray release. Which WB has determined to be too expensive.

No one else seems to have posted this yet, so here goes: Babylon 5.

I guess the ineptness of large parts of the Star Trek films was more forgiveable when both story and the actual production were on a less high budget. Now that the films don't look like they're shot on slightly upgraded tv-sets anymore we also expect more from the people writing this.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend? or at least a useful tool, if so needed? That's how he treated Kirk and co.

The Star Wars prequels?

In a way I'm glad this version of Dune never got made, because no film could have done justice to Jodorowsky's ambitions (His plans make Terry Gilliam seem meek). The impression I got from descriptions and Moebius' artwork were that the whole undertaking was the kind of glorious mix of nonsense, high scale imagination

Well, duh. It fuses it together and makes it cold. How would you stop a volcano from exploding?
