Mostly what stuck out to me was just how lazily imagined it was. The Harry Potter books weren’t breathtakingly original in terms of tone or worldbuilding, but she was at home in that world. The Fantastic Beasts films swap all of the detail from the books for just rendering a lot of concept art in cgi. They feel empty,

I’ll defend Tideland, but I haven’t even seen any of his stuff since Parnassus. And I used to love Gilliam, I spent months looking forward to Brothers Grimm. lol

I think anyone who loved British comedy and read those books before the films came out had some very specific casting choices in mind while reading.
(For me it was Jennifer Saunders as Rita Skeeter, and initially Rowan Atkinson in full Blackadder mode as Snape)

I think it was simply because the studio’s thinking was ‘who has directed a movie set at a boarding school? Get me the guy who did Dead Poets Society!’
It was that imaginative thinking that lead Columbus to hire that movie’s director of photography.

Yeah, the part 1 resonated a lot more with me than 2.
The film bungles the ending pretty much entirely in a way that’s baffling. Rowling is far from a great writer, but she knew what she was doing with the end of the book (the epilogue is pretty heinous, but fits with her ideas about the series). The movie takes out

If I remember correctly, though Gilliam has had multiple stories about this over the years, the main objection for doing the movie was that the studio wanted to make the first two films back to back, and Gilliam wanted to have the time for post production to make the first one. He didn’t want to be essentially a cog

That’s definitely part of the problem, a lot of it was also due to Lucas being surrounded by yes-men. When he made the first Star Wars he had peers in Spielberg and Brian DePalma who weren’t afraid to voice their opinions, the cast themselves pushed back, and of course his then wife helped him edit his stuff into

Maybe don’t watch movies made for kids?

Artists actually are just normal people, you’re talking about people who were given authority and made enough money to be protected by their studios from the consequences of their antisocial behavior.

Ah, I see you are also a fan of the scene, last season, where they eulogized a barely repentant mass murderer for being so sassy and how that taught them to be more confident or something.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Hulu eventually reduces that to a 3 part miniseries coming in 2024.

I mean they’ve got Michael Burnham, so she’ll figure it out. And no matter the cost to them, or anyone else, the crew will be thankful for it. So she never has to think about her choices, because she’ll be proven right.

Easy, they just have Q saying he felt it would be more polite to match Picard’s advanced decrepitude, or something to that effect.

‘Jean Luc you cheated! I show up here looking old and worn, to match your advanced decrepitude only for you to be nothing but a pile of circuitry

Have you seen Generations? They switch between the Next Generation uniforms and the Deep Space 9 uniforms throughout the film.

Thomas Middleditch: If Woody Allen was a Wasp without the talent.
Thomas Middleditch: the name says where he belongs
Thomas Middleditch: if a whine was a person.

It looked like it might have been shot in Vancouver (and environs) which is at least a good start if you want to play in the X-files sandbox.
There were some hints of that Fringy creepiness and weirdness, but it really lacks a character like Walter Bishop.

lol She likened people who disagree with her to nazis. If your point is that you’re being demonised for your opinions, don’t compare yourself to a victim of the holocaust, and your commenters to nazis. Especially when you can’t even recognise the obvious antisemitism of some of the stuff you share online.

Yeah, but she doesn’t know what any of those things are. She’s a celebrity on social media, who caused such a stink the studio didn’t want to be associated with it.
Getting criticized online is not censorship, and if you can’t tell the difference between those things maybe you should log off and read a book.

She’s already been in The Mandalorian, but no one would notice.
