IIRC, Brazil uses Ethanol, not Methanol. They grow an abundance of sugar cane, which is more cheaply processed into Ethanol than the corn that we use in the US.
Brazil uses sugar canes, and to grow anything in an industrial scale requires a lot of fertilisers. Instead of allocating the fertilisers for transportation, using them to feed the planet would be far better if we can use “free energy” (e.g. sunlight, wind, etc.)+atmospheric CO2 for fuel.
Same for German, hence the name. It’s “e-petrol”, if you like.
