If you read the Art of VB book, when Adult Swim asked Jackson Publick to pitch the show, they gave him zero notes and told him to just make the show he wanted. As scripts came in, he and Doc got notes, but Mike Lazzo was still pretty hands-off. When there was a regime change, I’m sure that hurt the Astrobase.

It’s kind of hilarious that they canceled an animated series with a small writing/voice cast just before a pandemic killed most TV production.

If Adult Swim wanted them to deliver faster, they would have insisted that Doc and Jackson hire more writers and farm out the directing; they clearly didn’t care about the fact that they were paying two guys to write, direct and voice a dozen episodes of an animated series who then understandably needed a break after…
