Mark Millar the racist? The misogynist? At best he’s an opportunist who used his comic industry connections to write mini-series he could then market as Hollywood IP.

A former friend of mine drew an X-book for Marvel and I happened to see an invoice while hanging out in his studio and I make more tending bar than he did penciling and inking a book.
At one point, Marvel was printing the WFH agreement on the back of their paychecks so cashing your paycheck meant signing away the rights to your work.
General Lane told Clark it was synthetic Kryptonite.
Was it Charlie Huston who wrote the David Finch run? You’re right, though, that era is brutal and grimdark. Pretty sure someone gets their face cut off in the first arc.
I love everything Edgar Wright has done* but his Ant-Man would have been a mess. Scott Lang as an ant turned into a man? Terrible idea. The split timeline with the sixties/00s as a heist and superhero flick? That part is amazing. Wright is one of the few directors I’ll wait in line for.
Disney and other corporations have the funds to fight these sorts of things and paying a settlement (that comes with an NDA) is cheaper than admitting fault and having to pay multiple authors what they’re owned. Their lawyers are on retainer/salary, so Disney’s not losing money fighting it like Alan Dean Foster was…
What about Rex the motherfucking Wonder Dog?!
That’s it, that’s the mic drop.
I haven’t eaten meat in thirteen years and I would break that streak for some long pig.
You have my undying love for ranking Upright Citizens Brigade as the number two sketch show. I once ruined Matt Besser’s stand-up set when he brought me on stage for a bit and I have never been more ashamed or proud.
Maybe he already did?
Oh, I’m not interested in VB written by someone other than Doc and Jackson. Well, maybe Ben Edlund, since he wrote one episode and plotted another. But aside from him...
I wonder if any of this has to do with Riley Reid being a rapist?
Counterpoint: Nathan Fillion is an absolute joy in James Gunn’s Slither.
If you read the Art of VB book, when Adult Swim asked Jackson Publick to pitch the show, they gave him zero notes and told him to just make the show he wanted. As scripts came in, he and Doc got notes, but Mike Lazzo was still pretty hands-off. When there was a regime change, I’m sure that hurt the Astrobase.
It’s kind of hilarious that they canceled an animated series with a small writing/voice cast just before a pandemic killed most TV production.
If Adult Swim wanted them to deliver faster, they would have insisted that Doc and Jackson hire more writers and farm out the directing; they clearly didn’t care about the fact that they were paying two guys to write, direct and voice a dozen episodes of an animated series who then understandably needed a break after…
Fun Fact: Grant Morrison gave him the ending to Red Son.
