My mom is basically an AV Clubber minus tech skillz. She was really popular on the AOL Thirty-something chatroom in about 1996.

W13 is in general a little stupider but also a little more fun than Alphas, and it has a good gay guy character (though IIRC he hasn't had any relationships that we see, and also he spent a few episodes kinda dead (like actually dead)) who reminds me of Jon a little.

At first I thought they were aping Warehouse 13 and Jon was going to say "sorry, I'm gay." I hope Nina gets somebody nice and sane, because I really like her character but she can get grating when she's frustrated (and that seems to be often.)

Okay, so Stanton is Magneto? And David Strathairn is Professor X? I got serious X-Men vibes from the show, but I've only seen like 1/4 of the episodes and didn't want to assume that without confirmation from someone who watches regularly.

That line caused some awkward, delayed laughter in my house. Like, what? What's going on?

I don't watch Alphas regularly (my mom does, and I sort-of do if I'm around,) but I didn't even notice Nina was missing until my mother said something like, "I guess this new girl is replacing bitchyface."

It was less like a vow at the time (though it kind of evolved into one) than a trigger inside my head that sent up a red flag any time I saw one of his books at the library or in a shop. The story had  potential, was darker than other stuff I'd been into at the time, and the writing was perfectly competent. It didn't

I read "The Rag & Bone Shop" by Cormier when I was 13 or so, and vowed to never under any circumstances read anything by him ever again, ever.

Step Up came out at the beginning of eighth grade for me, I think. My school had "exploratory" classes—music, art, home ec, hammering shit to other shit—on six-week rotation, and they were the only classes you took with kids outside your "hall." Anyway.

you just described every single person in my eighth-grade music class.

I saw Sucker Punch in the theater and liked it well enough that I spent a lot of time thinking about what changes I'd have made—which is my way of enjoying a movie. It came so close to hitting so many of my buttons that I wanted it to be a little better.

It's in my personal "least favorite movies of all time" canon. Nobody's likable or even interesting, plot is dumb, blah blah blah teenage bullshit I'm terrible.

I've been trying to find/remember a particular mystery series for a few years. The book I remember has a group of friends (brothers?) going into a "haunted" house on the advice of another boy, but realize that he just painted eyes on the walls with fluorescent paint. Then they see a pair of real eyes looking through a
