I have to point out that they say in the intro that Supes is redone approximately every 15 years, and this was written to prep him for 2000….

I enjoyed True Grit, but it's easily one of my least favorite Coen flims. I've never once had the urge to see it a second time.
thanks for writing this up. I really *like* ASM, but it ultimately feels incredibly personal and possibly inscrutable to me. something they made for themselves, whether or not it contained meaning to others. I'm glad to have your take on it.
I'm pretty sure BAR is the absolute funniest movie they've ever made, but it doesn't have the depth of something like Lebowski, so it's just going to have to rank lower than others.
but JJL's performance is *supposed* to be an imitation. She's acting like she thinks a high-powered woman like her would act.
this review is sooo disappointing to read. I was really hoping for more from Greenaway on this one
to be fair, though, that was entirely common at the time. you can't really pick on Grease for that.
this was funded by toyota, right?
I'm not sure who they approached. Have you seen a list somewhere? I know several of the correspondents (among them Sam Bee) were specifically *not* contacted. And that makes it seem like they had already decided to look for someone outside the show to me.
you're probably right. but I don't think there was any way they could have kept him while stewart hadn't announced his retirement, because they couldn't promise him a start date.
it seems pretty clear that by the time Stewart left, CC (and possibly Stewart himself) wanted new blood to take over the show.
it was 2008 and pretty much no one wanted a new X-files movie was part of the problem.
'minority investor'
'better than the dvd' is nice to hear, because the one review on Amazon right now claims it's identical
if you don't read reviews, how do you decide what's worth your time and money?
I quote the conspiracy of cartographers line fairly regularly. sadly, I've only had people catch it a handful of times.
I'm totally thrilled this is finally getting a BD release. Not only am I a huge Stoppard fan (not to mention Roth and Oldman!), but this movie was important in exposing me to more non-traditional narratives.
I had a significant number of those people in my showing as well, and I found it really offputting when they found the violence against JJL hilarious right from the first hit.
it's Tarantino announcing that you're not going to be getting the same as what you got in the first act. You've entered a different style zone.
I don't think I would call it a plot hole, but I don't quite understand why the gang would go through the trouble of faking who they are and being hospitable at Minnie's instead of simply catching Ruth and OB off guard when they arrive. They aren't cautious when they arrive, and they're only two people against four…
