There's no logic to saying that simply replacing a character model and voice actor changes the point of view, either.

And at that time, were half of the free running assassins likely going to be female? Was half the military female? Is it now?

I agree, there should be more diversity. However I'm not going to force studios to put diversity in if they don't want to.

And those assassins weren't free-running around their respective cities. I agree that women have historically been great assassins, but the type of assassination they've most commonly engaged in is dramatically different than the type of assassinations depicted in Assassins Creed.

One dude. When there's a broader consensus amongst them I'll go with it.

Considering everyone in the co-op mode sees themselves as Arno, and not as another character playing with Arno, I still don't get it.

Will there even be competitive multiplayer? Because remember, with the co-op, everyone sees themselves as Arno.

I agree, I'd love to see more games like Liberation. But you know what? They don't need to make them if they don't want to. Hell, the last two games were about a half black/half native american woman, and a native american man. Now they're going back to a white dude when it makes sense (France, after all). Is that

Read the statement. Everyone playing sees their player character as Arno. The other players they play with are viewed as other characters, but the other players also see themselves as Arno. There is no such thing as a non-Arno player character. Ergo, no controversy.

Competitive multiplayer, not co-op multiplayer. And considering each player plays as Arno, and not some other assassin, it would mean that there's no actual choice to who you play as. Everyone is Arno, you just only see other characters as some slightly different looking dude.

It's not that it's "not having the money", it's that it's not viewed as something that's going to be a good return on investment. Will spending a ton of money on a brand new character translate into enough sales to cover those costs? If yes, then they'd go for it. If no, then they'll axe it. It's a business decision

So if I could play Assassins Creed as an anthropomorphic cat creature, would I now have the cat point of view? How about if I played it as an amorphis blob? Do I get the blob point of view?

And how much sense would it make, in context, that a woman be an assassin along with the men? Remember, this was a time when women had very few rights. So while they may have been common, it would be extremely uncommon for a woman to end up in a position like that.

Yeah, Asian and Hispanic characters get focused on to a far less degree then black/gay/female characters, at least in gaming press.

When was it a prospect, though? I mean, this isn't competitive multiplayer, it's co-op.

What are you even going on about? The only thing that would change would be the model and the voice actress. There would be no change to the actual point of view, the story, or how the story is perceived by the player character.

I'm likewise disappointed. Partially because I'm a fan of any game that gives players more variety in the character they play, and partially because I play female characters whenever possible.

It's not competitive multiplayer though, it's co-op. And Ubisoft explained why it's that way, and that's because while you play with others, every characters sees themselves as the main character, Arno. So it would really change nothing, as there's no character variety for the player character.

How would replacing a male character model with a female character model change the point of view? The dialogue would remain the same, as would the story. They're need to drastically re-write the story for a female point of view in a given historical setting as it's usually extremely different from a male point of

When was the expectation set that there would be playable female characters, though? Granted I haven't followed it closely, but I don't remember them ever saying that there would be playable female characters in Unity.
