FYI, the 924S has most of the goodies of the 944 without the 80's ‘flair’. After studying these, I think they’re the most interesting of the family.

I would recommend getting past an adjustable crescent wrench at all costs... buy the correct sizes. An adjustable, especially a big one, will only bring you busted knuckles and stripped fasteners. Take it from my hard-earned experience.

The best mechanic I ever knew was spotless all the time. Incredibly organized, and he had the skills to never get dirty. He managed a commercial fleet of buses and snowplows, and had a process in place where he did preventative maintenance... it helps avoid a lot of nasty/dirty work.
