Well, I believe you are generalizing a bit too much, but you have a point. My first MOBA ever was DOTA2, then tried LoL out of curiousity and to find out why it is so popular.
You can also play DOTA 2 if you like LoL, nothing wrong to play both!

Well looking at these examples, LoL art is full of oversexualized females, and massive brutes. If I were someone looking at examples of both games for the first time ever, I would dismiss LoL's art as the most generic, I would've thought it comes from an MMO.
It is definitely not scary... maybe the first time you get attacked, but then it is just startles you, similar to slenderman, you already knew after getting a note he may be nearby, but at least you were moving and it made it more thrilling.
