And I'll continue to be surprised by the lack of interest here in A Brief History Of Seven Killings by Marlon James: I mean it's a pulpy, pop-culture referencing epic with a smattering of fantasy, written by a gay black man. I'd have thought it would be right in the sweet spot.

he wears expensive clothes, lives in rich apartments, and surrounds himself with beautiful women.

Much as it feels slightly awkward to be the one to leap to the defence of the white males (so feel free to roll your eyes), I think you're being a bit parochial with only seeing Kilgrave's power as an analogy to 'white male privilege.'

The thing is Rowling was definitely planning to address this issue. Goblet of Fire introduces a whole host of foreign wizards and nations and there are scattered mentions of the need for international cooperation. There's just no follow through.
I suspect that she found the problems of scale and politics a little

You've obviously never been to Birmingham. (UK)

Almost all animal lovers are selective, surely. Few people like cockroaches and wasps as much as ponies and poodles.

Right, some of these were probably mentioned already but:
