Die Frau ohne Schatten!

My favorite unheralded Robert Aldrich movie is The KIlling of Sister George. At times it's like watching a Fassbinder film. The Beryl Reid character is such a loud-mouthed out-of-control armored tank of a woman, utterly absurd with her imitations of Charles Laughton, Sydney Greenstreet or Oliver Hardy. Yet she's the

Dan's long-lost identical twin brother?

… or the Monkees, even!

And a worthless piece of shit just keeps on getting worthlesser

(In my best Emily Latella voice) Never mind

And where's the AVC review of Gifted (#8, 2nd weekend in Top 10)? Not that I want to see it, but it does have Chris Evans, and could it be that much worse than Unforgettable or Phoenix Forgotten?

I agree. I accept "they" when it refers to an unknown or a theoretical singular person, "He", the supposed correct pronoun IS sexist, and he/she is awkward, When the gender is known, I'd prefer a plain old "he" or "she".

That doesn't excuse bad grammar from a professional writer

But why?

That had me confused too. Does he have multiple partners? If he has one, why hide the gender? Weird.

Sean Baker has a new film? When does it get a US release? Tangerine and Starlet are two of my all-time favorite films.

The Life O'Reilly

Maybe a reality show on TLC or E!

I saw The Devils (the perfect movie for Easter Sunday!) and Your Name - one of the best movies I've seen in months - animated or live action. So far my two favorite movies of the year are both animated, Your Name and My Life as a Zucchini

Actually, the only year I seriously questioned their nominations was 2011 when A Cat in Paris and Chico and Rita were nominated instead of (presumably) Cars 2 and The Adventures of Tin Tin. Well Cars 2 is a piece of shit, easily the worst Pixar film ever, and Chico and Rita is quite sophisticated and ambitious. But

Geez, it's bad enough mixing up Chinese and Japanese, but Irish and Chinese? - that's not aggressively ignorant, that's ignorance with malice aforethought!

Even 2014 isn't so bad. Boxtrolls and Song of the Sea are works of art. The Lego Movie may not have been any worse than the other 3 (acceptable) nominees, but it wasn't really any better, either.

Slight correction. Your Name got a short run to try to compete in the Animated Film category. Japan submitted Nagasaki: Memories of My Son for the Best Foreign Film category

The animation nominations have been the best nominations for the last two years (Boy and the World, and When Marnie was There over The Peanuts Movie and The Good Dinosaur in 2015; The Red Turtle and My Life as a Zucchini over Finding Dory, Sing and Trolls). Clearly something had to be done to sink them to the level of
