I found the scene in Valyria to be moving. The two characters bonding over what is essentially a grave. The moment were Drogon flies passed. It felt very nice. Very nice indeed.

Wasn’t there this big assumption last week about homonormalcy or some such? This week, Nyssa didn’t object to marrying because of her orientation (we still don’t know if she’s gay or bi), it was because she didn’t love him. It’s nice when people can use a TV show to mount their personal hobby horse.
If the machine is relying on that level of programming, then it’s not an A.I. and it’s not a personality as depicted in the show. Numerous times in the show, they have mentioned this is a global conflict. If it’s bounded to the US, then it very much is not and the rhetoric is flat. Indeed, if it is so bounded, and two…
As I was watching this episode, I had to ask... why would the Machine stay inside the continental United States. Why not move to any of the bazillion Bitcoin Mining farms across Asia or, if it wants to be close to the US (why?) sit on the other side of the trunklines connecting the US to either China or Europe?
No one saw this coming, because it was completely out of left field. There was no basis, no evidence, no suggestion, no inclination, no hearsay or conjecture (both kinds of evidence) to this frankly “we need a finale” action.
The only offense I took from this (from the filmmaker) was that Whedon publicly supported Anita Sarkeesian and then he goes and Damseled Black Widow. Neither Whedon nor Sarkeesian has addressed this hypocrisy.
According to Joss Whedon, AoS exists in a separate universe to the MCU. As such, AoS has nothing to say, canonically, thematically, or actually about what happened in AoU.
This is awful. Not awe full. No, no. Not that. Awful. Almost every time the Networks look to the movies to make new content, it’s an insulting clusterfuck.
The Last Ship was one of the rare, and unexpected, joys of last year. That said, I can’t say I’m looking forward to this next season. Like with True Detective (premiering around the same time), the first season set the bar high for all seasons to come.
I’ve seen it a couple of times at this point, partly because I had to, to appreciate everything (even in slow motion, there’s a chaos which benefits from a second and tertiary viewing) and partly because it is so very damn awesome. I’ve heard people say this is weaker than the first, but I don’t see much of a…
Is there any evidence that Nyssa isn’t bi? Sara was. Or, she was straight until the writers wanted to inject a little lipstick lesbianism into the show. As such, one can’t presume that Nyssa’s objections have to do with her sexuality (as the writers haven’t revealed if there’s another shoe to drop). Being forced into…
If she was a well-trained, experienced operative, then sure. If she had used her power once, proved ineffective in that situation and then resorted to her backup, then sure. But, as you say, it a rationalization to turn a girl with a few months of hand-holding into a kung fu expert. This is where the lesser Whedon…
Indeed, you are right, sir (it would have to be the one point I didn’t pose as a question!).
I’m not talking about the Macguffin as much as I am about the process. Even with the scepter (and I’m assuming you haven’t seen AoU), that wouldn’t limit their ability to find him returning home. Why can they do something one time and not another time? No reason, no lantern, no reason is given.
Does io9 really have a thing against Teen Wolf? Surely, this is right up your YA lovin’ alley? And, ya know, it’s good. It’s actually good. And yet... completely overlooked.
Are you really setting the same standard for “professional writer” and an internet commenter? If that’s the case, I can understand your appreciation for this dross (also, when one derides someone for a specific thing or quality, it’s useful that your own isn’t up to snuff - Caeser’s wife must be above reproach and…
Since his only contribution to AoS was the pilot, in which Coulson returns, he doesn’t get to cry foul now ‘cause his brother and sister-in-law couldn’t write their way out of a wet paper bag. That said, I do accept the sort of revisionism offered in Age of Ultron.
Man, are you gonna be disappointed... Age of Ultron shows up AoS to be the disconnected, pointless waste of time it always was and always will. I wonder if, on release, Ultron will cause a dip in AoS ratings, just as Winter Soldier did last year.
