Here's an interview with Terry Cavanagh at Gamasutra, it's very interesting and it shows some of the complications that independent developers (unfortunately) have to go through.

@Spoony Bard: I agree with you, how can they give a score to something like gameplay? Do they have a checklist? Of course anyone can think of a score for a game, but it's something really abstract and personal. Actually it's just a way to say "this game is good, but it's below that one and above this one".

This is ridiculous. I can see how they are making games nowadays, it's something like: "Ok folks, we have these maps, these weapons, these quests and these characters, what can we pull out now and release later as a DLC?"
