Thank God she got a $6 million settlement in her civil suit. I have this theory as an attorney that the only way rape victims can get vindication anymore is through the civil system. I have represented rape victims pro bono to file lawsuits against their attackers, and against the police department, and will continue

I didn’t want to read this. The headline was awful enough. I knew how this would play out and I just couldn’t. But then I though, fuck, I need to read this because this shit happened to a real life lady. They raped her (cop, lawyers, investigators, all of them) over and over again. And that rapist only got 9 years -

And how many rape kits are still unprocessed because “gosh, we don’t have the funds for that”?

She isn’t, and don’t call her Shirley

The proof: a poll that doesn’t add up to 100.

It seems the the fascisti want all women who wish to vote to have a permission slip signed by their fathers, husbands, or owners

Your ranger has discovered that, upon obsessively domesticating his owlbear, he has been stricken with a blindness spell!

What the fuck is with all the rules? What is this, Dungeons and Dragons?

I’m Chinese-American, and its so funny to me how each countries media reports on the other. In China, where women could own property and divorce hundreds of years before their western counterparts, they see American restrictions on abortions and birth control, the gender pay gap, rates of sexual violence, etc as

Research has shown again and again that the best way to control population growth is to educate women and give them access to contraception. But we couldn’t have that, could we?

A+ for use of the passive voice, Chicago police. “The police shot and killed a mentally ill teenager and an unrelated woman” sounds a lot worse than “the accidental discharging of the officer’s weapon, resulting in the fatal wounding of two individuals.” Man, I hate it when my weapon just spontaneously discharges,

I was personally more upset about my dog dying than my grandfather dying because my grandfather was an asshole and my dog wasn’t. However, that doesn’t make my dog equivalent to a human being, and equating a dog’s death or illness to a person’s is still a really asshole thing to do. And I’ve heard more than a few

Does it bother me when people dote over their pets to the extreme? Not in the least, and I’d be a hypocrite. What does bother me is the false equivalency between pets and children, but not for the reasons you might think.

Treating a pet like they are human can be bad, behavior-wise, and health-wise. Respecting them and considering them to be, in their own capacity, a member of the family isn’t harmful.

I have a two year old dog and a two year old kid and the dog is delightful.

I was talking legally not morally or ethically. Legally animals are property, they cant own things, you cannot assault them, if they are hurt by someone then that person can be sued for property damage in a civil court. There are animal cruelty laws protecting them but they aren’t legal persons.

I’m in between. My pets are almost always inside. I can see three of five right now. :P They get Christmas presents. Well, one small thing each. But I don’t spend a fortune on them. They do not have the same status as my kids. I love the crap out of them though. Our couch at the end of the day is me, my husband, two

When I was growing up my parents went to the local pound and got us a dog. We loved that dog. Then, when he died, we went and got another dog from the pound. While it didn’t make us forget our first dog, we loved that dog too.
