I thought the best way to support a band would be to buy their merch or attend their concerts. Most of the money from CDs or stream would go to the recording company and not to the band.

How would it betray you? If you stream and decide it’s becoming too expensive to afford, sure or if you ripped all your CDs and your hard drive crashes without a backup.
