You didn’t bring up the data loss issues where peoples saves are getting corrupted by crashes on PC. Story, unlockables, characters, ranks, and everything else gets lost because it is saved on your PC and not on a server. And Steam Cloud doesn’t restore it.

The lore in WoW these days is complete garbage too since they changed the lore with the poorly thought out lowest common denominator Chronicles books. FFXIV is leaps and bounds above this shithole game. FFXI being the absolute master of an MMO story.

It is its own contained story and universe. It just has a lot of refrences and crossovers to other FF games. You don’t need to get the references or crossovers to follow XIV’s story. I recommend old Squaresoft created FF games first though. You really shouldn’t have this be your first FF. I recommend 4, 6, 7, 9, 10,…
