Duggar was 15 years old. While I’ll agree he should have faced more consequences at the time, I’m not going to act like he’s an irredeemable person.
The problem here is not Huckabee’s response; I actually rather liked it, because I agree that ones’ actions at 14 should not define you for life, even though they were clearly reprehensible. This is actually the type of Christian thinking that would have kept me in the church when I was younger.
I don’t feel comfortable making that kind of supposition. Even if she was molested, people respond to sexual trauma in a variety of ways. I don’t think we should rely on that old stereotype that if a woman is not interested in coupling up it must be because she’s somehow sexually damaged.
