People, it’s not 1995 anymore. It’s okay to admit that Hyundai makes a good quality vehicle. Don’t love the Tucson myself, but these have a fair market of $19k stock and the wheels/tires combo is worth more than $2k on its own. For something a bit different, but still reliable and more warranty left than most cars get

32 y/o bland Rover that likely gets single digit MPG, plus custom work to make it even more difficult and expensive to maintain asking almost $13k? No brainer in the opposite direction today, hard CP.

At that price, assuming it passes a mechanical check-up and shake-down, it’s a pretty no-brainer NP.

Would spending $8k on this be your smartest life decision? No, but it probably also wouldn’t be your worst. Don’t think you could find anything more head turning for the price, so went ahead and voted NP. If this car was in sunny CA instead of Iowa, I’m guessing it would be sold already.

About $500-$1000 too expensive honestly, but since I’m sick of voting CP on everything, I decided that’s within range of a NP. Hopefully the old owner is up for some haggling and the new owner gets some new wheels and removes the scoop to make this thing classy again.

This isn’t just a “someone else’s project”, this is trusting $17k (which you could get an actually good 5 door for) to something a dude cobbled together in his driveway, has multiple admitted issues, and is being sold under sketchy conditions. Honestly, this might be the crankiest pipe I’ve ever seen here. Way to kick

I thought I was in a “just need a temporary cheap car” situation when the transmission on my VW started having issues, but I wasn’t in a position yet to get an EV like I wanted. Picked up a salvage title e39 528i with over 230k on the odo for $900. That was a year ago now and the thing has just kept starting up every

You basically summarized Fair’s business model at the end there.

I was going to say that something with Lada would be a good band name, but then I remembered there’s already that classic rock song about a date night in one...

“In a Lada Niva honey, don’t you know that I’m lovin’ you

I really only see two possibilities for this situation. Either the owner is going through a divorce or there is something seriously wrong with the car. The fact that it’s being listed on Craigslist instead of a specialty auction block makes me lean towards the latter.

NP for somebody, but not for me. I always wanted one of these...until I actually sat in one. At 5’10” I felt absolutely crammed in and the thought of driving around surrounded by modern SUVs in the thing means I’d have to wear diapers in it.

That belongs in a museum! Wait, wrong movie...CP

Who are you bro?

Fairly NP for anyone (not that difficult to get a very well used german luxury car around LA for this price, but most don’t look this nice), but doubly NP for anyone with the skill to do the stated work themselves. That skill would also help them in parting this thing out if anything major blows up and at least get

Assuming for a second you’re a retired/near retired person with a decent amount, but not unlimited, of disposable income and looking for a weekend ride that will turn heads. You’re not an enthusiast and you want something ready to turn the key and go. Assuming everything in the add is correct, could you really do

My E39 5-series also has the “looks good from 15ft. away” thing going on and is a strong runner. Definitely not going to put $8000+ into it though or almost 1000 hours (even if I had the skill and space to do things myself). Since I only spent $900 on it initially, it’s a constant thought in my head over how much more

Given the relatively strong NP results in the early voting, but much lower percentage of NP comments, I’m guessing a lot of voters are hitting NP with their hearts on this one, but then struggling to justify it with their heads.

If this thing was near perfect, I would give it a NP, but it’s most definitely not. It’s a fairly hard ridden, but maybe well-ish maintained 35 year old compact car. That should not cost you almost $4k. For that same price, get a newer, much safer, more comfortable, and easier to maintain (because there will still be

Top photo looks like a Hot Wheels, or maybe a plasticky Hot Wheels knock-off. I suppose that’s what we deserve.

Tough CP because this one is so clean and very pretty, but there are many many newer ones around for cheaper. Even if you really want a 2001, a quick search brought one up in Florida for $26k.
