Haha! I was just thinking the converse: I want whoever’s garage I’m working in to help me not be an idiot. If I were on the side where I was renting out the space, I’d definitely be with you though. Having a string of different itinerant mechanics coming through and doing different projects seems like a great way to

The auto option in the WRX is decent.

Emirates just ordered 20 new ones.

I’m too lazy to see if that’s actually an appropriate code, but COTD nonetheless.

The U2 and SR71 fly in the 70k-80k ft range (partly) because there’s a minimum in wind speed in that altitude band.

Subarus don’t count; they barely lose value. I’ve seen a mid-90s Legacy with 200k miles go for $5k. That’s 0.1%/week, half the rate of any category on this list. Shit, even if you account for inflation it’s still better than the best ones (full size trucks and sports cars).

#10 is the WRX.

This is a good point. What they should do is have the advertised price be roughly the same, but with various incentives or deals that significantly lower the price out the door. Then customers feel like they’re getting a good deal rather than just a cheaper product.

I have never been a fan of Caddys, but that... that is amazing.

The CR-V (34/28) & Rogue (33/26) aren’t that different from the rest of the segment: the Forester 2.5x gets 32/26, the CX-5 gets 31/25, the Equinox gets 32/26 (or 39/28 if you get the diesel), and the Compass gets 32/23. That diesel number in particular suggests the aero isn’t something you can’t overcome.

I’d probably have bought one if they’d offered AWD and MT.

I had a similar interaction with my mother recently.

This last weekend, I spent 14 hours in an uninsulated garage doing a transmission swap, the first time I’ve ever done any major repair myself. I’m not sure how many times I thought, “Why am I not paying someone else to do this?” but it was a lot.

I feel like it should be that Aussie who had all the warranty problems with his Jeep.

What about when it happens while it’s empty, on its way to a pickup?

Florida drivers is an easy problem to solve: hire Ethiopians instead.

When cars were first introduced, people lauded them for exactly this reason: there would be less horse shit on the road. 60 years later...

Even when it’s full, the A380 is very expensive to run — about 20% more per seat-mile than a 777-300ER. That’s a big enough difference that you can go from seven to eight flights a week to make up the capacity, save money, and improve your flexibility when demand is low.

That’s not the only measure. An A380 is expensive to run, 20% more than a 777-300ER per seat-mile. That means if (for example) they ran 8 777 flights a week instead of 7 A380s, they’d save money, give passengers more flexibility in travel, and be able to reduce their capacity when they’re not at the heavy travel
