I work in materials research and the amount of money going into battery R&D from every direction is nuts right now. Makes me wish I’d taken a slightly different career path! Probably half my friends are doing something related to it, either at a university, a gov’t lab, a private lab, a startup, or somewhere they

The stock is essentially flat over the last 5 years, but that dividend would be nice.

Once the EV industry is more mature, we’ll likely see electric replace diesel in mining: more torque and no exhaust to get rid of in an enclosed environment. And as the cost of renewables becomes more competitive with fossil fuels, the refining won’t be as dirty either.

Worth noting that Musk is a big proponent of asteroid mining, the ultimate in “more expensive” mining techniques. He’s stated it as a necessary step in the colonization of Mars (SpaceX’s official long term goal) but if Tesla and other EV makers start needing massively more metal than we produce right now, that could

Cobalt, Ontario [...] which began life as a silver town, also is believed to have some cobalt, though no one’s really found much yet.

I hate to be all “well, actually” but... *9th. 10th is Tennant.

David linked one listed for less than half what these guys want. That’s a genuine classic too: I doubt this replica will ever be half as desirable.

Getting hit by a motorcycle isn’t fun to begin with. If the extension on the front is just gonna break off, it’s not really adding to the collision hazard. The same basic rider/pedestrian safety rules you usually follow should be sufficient.

Back in the day, a V6 was the base model and a V8 was the premium model (at least in the US). Also, V8s just sound better than V6s, almost no matter what you do. But I think even a V8 might be too mundane for a Lambo: they should build a small displacement V10 or V12, just to keep the exotic note and badge/cachet.

Looks like one part BRZ, one part Challenger, two parts Aventador. I like it!

A Beastly Fee

This is the real problem with no physical media anymore.

Divorce proceedings seem like they must be difficult to conduct from prison.

This is exactly what I was thinking: there’s no way David would be happy buying a vehicle that already works. He’d probably be happy driving it around for a few days, but that would wear off. The only way I can see it working for him is if he could use it to tow home other junkers, but this thing is only rated for

“So much torque, the chassis twisted coming off the line...”

California is not an at will state. It has some of the strongest employment protection laws in the country.

I’ve definitely seen it with a Brazilian flag, probably in the US though (Brazil was a delightfully pleasant blur).
