Why this over a Pilot?

Man... Foci are really badly designed. I’ve done it in my STI hatch without issue. One more reason not to get a Ford, I guess.

A 2003 WRX wagon has 27.9 cf cargo volume without putting the seats down.

I have put both my toddler niece and infant nephew in the back of my STI hatch without any issues of that kind. Does a Focus really have that much less space in the passenger compartment?

They don’t even hold that much extra stuff unless you remove the rear seat.

An SS has less cargo space than a mk7 GTI.

Leaving aside that he’s probably wrong about needing a bigger car, a bugeye WRX wagon has 22% more cargo volume than a mk7 GTI.

Ask NeonBlaqk about putting infants in the back of a two-door hatchback the next time you see her comment. She’s got a Fiat 500 Abarth and an infant. I guarantee you a 2-door GTI is easier to load kids into.

Fit three adults and two kids in car seats with all the associated baggage in my STI hatch last spring. It would’ve been less of a squeeze if I’d remembered to leave my hockey bag at home before going to the airport. I wouldn’t want to do the 3+2 situation on the regular, but 2+2 would be totally doable. A GTI has more

Foresters are fun, but they’re not much bigger than Imprezas. If this guy thinks his GTI isn’t big enough, he’s probably not going to be much happier with a Forester. On the other hand, he’s probably wrong (if you can’t fit two kids and their crap in your hatchback, something’s wrong) so the Forester really is a great

Musk isn’t a supervillain. It seems like his biggest fear is killer AIs, and one of his primary motivations for wanting to colonize Mars is so humans have a place to retreat. He’s going to be the one bankrolling these guys.

OK, well I can’t say specifically without knowing more, but overall US biology postdocs make 40% more than their counterparts in the UK. There also aren’t as many permanent jobs for scientists/faculty in the UK (or Europe in general) so my point about not doing it unless it’s going to be the only way to complete your

What field are you in?

Nope. Not in a long time.

What’s the daily/weekly rate?

My mom’s best friend had one when I was a little kid. It was really just a spare car kept out of nostalgia (had belonged to her mom) so they’d let us use it when we went to visit. That was always my favorite.

I wouldn’t care personally, but I can see how someone would and I wouldn’t consider that an extreme position. I like weird vehicles and big trucks, but this is just an eyesore for anyone who doesn’t.

No “might” about it. This is heresy.

Every Brit scientist I know who’s worked over here says scientists are treated better in the US: better pay, more prestige. Prestige is hard to measure, but average pay for postdocs is about 20% better in the US than the UK.
