I didn’t say it didn’t work. It does work well, to make the villains look bad. That’s why it’s a cliché. It also makes the writers look bad. And it does nothing for the victims in real life.

That’s the problem. Rape is repeatedly used as a plot device to make villains look bad. It’s about the villains, not the victims, who far too often just end up as women in refrigerators. IMO, rape stories work well when they are focussed on the victim (e.g. The Accused), and occur sparingly. Tell the story rarely, to…
The problem with this reasoning is that it forgets that the writers are completely making it up as they go along at this point. “If Sansa wasn’t raped by Ramsay, she wouldn’t have had anything to do!”...except that the writers were entirely at liberty to create a storyline for her where she does stuff and is a badass…
I think season 6 did put some effort into making up for the sexual violence fuck-ups of 5 (lest we forget the Jamie/Cercie rape the director didn’t even seem to think they’d shot) not only with Sansa getting a revenge scene over her rapist but also the (frankly bloody wonderful) scene where she completely chews out…
So as long as it’s legal, that’s all that matters?
So you’re saying that as long as the actor doesn’t undergo any actual physical trauma, any level of sexual violence portrayed is acceptable?
For me, one of the biggest issues I had with the Sansa rape scene was less to do with her being raped but with how it was portrayed.
It would have carried the same weight for us, the viewers, because we had several seasons of Ramsay being Ramsay and his comeuppance from any character would have been glorious. But it wouldn’t have made as much sense for Sansa to be the one to do it.
For me, one of the biggest issues I had with the Sansa rape scene was less to do with her being raped but with how it was portrayed. Instead of focusing on the physical and emotional turmoil this is causing Sansa (the person being actively violated), the camera instead turns to Theon and his reaction to what’s going…
Yes but Ramsey’s treatment of Theon is proof enough to know that he’s a sadistic bastard. You can’t justify including a rape because you want to show how evil the antagonist is. You can do plenty of things outside of rape to show how evil a characters is, especially since in Ramsey’s case, they’d already demonstrated…
The sheer amount of sexual violence against women as compared to consensual sex and sexual violence against men is probably one of the most disturbing things about modern TV.
Love how stupid the guy’s argument is as if they’re equal acts. Many shows, Game of Thrones in particular, portray the killing of men purely as violence in war, usually in battle scenes that don’t focus on those being killed for long. Sexual violence however is always portrayed as a character wanting to emotionally…
Raape and threats of feature heavily in the books. Who can forget ‘pretty pia’ being put in the stocks ‘for the use of any man’. The problem with the show is that sexual violence becomes texture rather than plot point. Assumption of its happening. And yes we can say that medieval women who stepped out of role or got…
People just use it as another excuse to hate the film. The visual effects were fine, especially the ghosts that used actual people.
Practical objects don’t have soul either. What gives them soul is the work behind them. And if you think there isn't a fuck-ton of hard work behind digital effects, then you clearly know jack squat about digital animation.
I’ll admit, I don’t get the hate for the FX in this new Ghosbusters. People complain about “Scooby Doo ghosts” but, honestly, apart from being CG animation, the ghost pretty much follow the same designs as the original - slightly translucid and mosty of a single color ( the Librarian is purple, Slimer is Green, the…

My name is DC. I won't learn that the stove is hot until I touch it multiple times and then stick my head in the oven to check in there too.
