There is no countdown clock on Kinja that *requires* that you post before checking that you’re about to say something irredeemably stupid. You lose no internet points for taking 20 seconds to check Google.

Focusing more on the victims would, from the media’s perspective, necessarily involve contacting people coping with shock and grief, not to mention digging up information about the dead that they are in no position to control, contextualize or refute. It’s a mass murder. Everything that flows from that is poisoned.

No, he did not. If you watch the press release, the sheriff is paraphrasing what the investigators told him what the shooter said about his motivations. In no way is that “offering his sympathies.”
Genuinely bewildered how a statement saying the police commissioner doesn’t seem committed to fighting police racism and misogyny “reads” like these people are shocked by the existence of misogyny and racism in the police. There’s nothing either between these lines, or in many other lines not quoted here that indicate…
It’s the illegal accessing of confidential information that is justifiably being treated as serious criminal offense here, not the ends to which that information was put.
The *defense* of this look is that it’s an old thing stapled to another similarly aged thing. It’s the fashion equivalent of a Family Guy style of humor where the audience mistakes being flattered for recognizing a reference for having gotten a joke.
The only difference between DeuxMoi and the type of gossip in which Jezebel traffics is that one publishes inane nonsense without putting the worst possible and usually unfounded spin on it, and one is Jezebel.
“It’s an Easter Egg/wink to people with a sense of humor.”
He had a show on some cable network or another for a while for a while why he waited for backlash from phone-hacking thing to blow over. Incidentally, the phone hacking thing was fairly big news over here too, as it was so horrific, so I was surprised he wasn’t too toxic to air then.
Do you publish those anomynously? Because if you’re going to lean into being a journalist, you should have no problem demonstrating your authority, rather than just claiming it. Post some links, friendo.
Hard to imagine why Ngo being gay matters, but he is not South Asian, he’s American. His parents were originally from Vietnam, but that’s Southeast Asia, so you’re still incorrect even if one were to buy into that sort of reductionism in which you were indulging. Anyway, you’re a great journalismer, keep at it.

That second comment left me feeling like Papa Doc in the final battle of 8 Mile. Kudos.
Miley Cyrus is still a thing because she’s an excellent singer and performer, and a has a number of hit songs that she has been fairly consistent in delivering over her career, and a large fanbase. It’s not really mysterious. What is mysterious, to me, is how a person could reach adulthood and fail to understand that…
“sources alleged that Gaga dished out the $500,000 reward to the woman in question.”
Clicks on story: unsurprised to learn that Beiber specifically said his album won’t heal anything.
I don’t quite understand how either of those things are relevant to the discussion at hand. I have no problem with not using direct or indirect demographic descriptors for branding purposes (and yes, I would include the Highlander in that). Arguing against people’s sense of their own dignity in favor of a corporate pro…
Yeah, I’d say the number of religious people with idiosyncratic beliefs about what their faith requires to them is more-or-less equal to the number of religious people.
This seems to be as good a place as any to say that science is not morality, and is not prescriptive. It is a system of knowledge. So, even if science says there are only two genders, it does not therefore follow that we need to organize any part of our society according to that limitation.
