I would say that both groups have existed for a long time. Even when I was growing you up would always see the awesome custom ‘37 Fords next to the numbers matching 1969 Z/28 Camaro, and both would get a lot of appreciation.
My thought is that the “well optioned” craze is growing in part to two main reasons. First is

Personally, I find that the communication and sensation of speed a car can provide is more important (and harder to quantify) than “slow car fast” or “HP to weight” or any other measurable metric.

Everyone with a hellcat or demon:

There’s a photography trope that says, “the best camera is the one you have with you.” The idea is that the best photographs aren’t always the ones that are sharpest, or have the most accurate color, or the most megapixels; but rather the best photographs capture a moment that moves you, and those moments pass

It just seems like its the change in culture these days.

Don’t get too salty, that MR2 will rust.

Hahaha, wow good call. It was an ‘05 Tiburon.

Wife and I were hauling a queen sized bed set on the roof of our Oldsmobile right after we moved to PA. It was night, we had the hazards going, both our phones plugged in, and radio on. Electrical system couldn’t handle it and fried the pigtail off the positive battery terminal. We ended up stuck in the middle of the

Not my car, but helped my friend fix it...

Okay, this seemed desperate but it turned out it wasn’t.

I am not sure if this is an emergency fix per se, but my brother’s transmission was stuck in reverse and he ended up driving about a mile and half in reverse to get it to the shop. We used two additional cars with hazards to go in front and behind his car to avoid needing to have it towed.

Spark plug engineer, here. I’ll just make a few points.

“Copper” plugs actually have a nickel center electrode. The copper is contained entirely inside the plug where you can’t see it. This copper exists in all the spark plugs worth buying.

If you plan ahead you can get the good quality wipers from rockauto for less than $10 a blade, and the same ones from the store shelves for half price, you just need to purchase a few sets at a time to offset the shipping charges. I just ordered 2 sets for 2 of my cars for less than $8 per blade for Bosch icon

Centric Premium Rotors for the win. Seriously, these are the best OE replacement rotors going.

I’m not exactly an expert on the matter, but I’m gonna go ahead and disagree with this one.

Brake rotors on mass produced automobiles are not made of steel, they are made of iron. (Some exotic cars now come with ceramic).

According the the FR-S/BRZ group I’m in, you can cheap out on:

- Tires
- Wheels
- Coilovers
- Also everything else.

812 Testarossa would’ve been a better choice of name than Superfast.
Ferrari should lose the rights to Testarossa just for that alone.
