I teach high school and we have to do those drills, but just with the teachers. Two in one day at the beginning of the year. I did the first one but was excused from the second when the administrator in charge of my department found me shaking and crying at my desk between the drills.
“Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat, but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.”
I just looked up this show on Wikipedia because I keep seeing it referenced and have no idea what it is and now I’m confused why she’s named as a bartender. She’s listed as an actress and has been in films. Is this show reality or scripted? Is she a bartender or does she play one?
So- can we, as educators, just for a second, follow this shitstorm that is this video? Totally aside from the racial slurs, etc.
My go-to is “I am so angry and disappointed because I EXPECT BETTER BECAUSE YOU ARE CAPABLE OF BETTER!”
UGGGHHH- So I came here to respond “Not all TFA” but then that’s such a shitty response so here’s a better one:
also, no one is talking about it, but she grabbed that kid at the beginning. You never, EVER put hands on the children. That was enough for me.
My students were being disrespectful and badly behaved today. So I stood silently at the front of the room giving them a death stare until they quieted down and then told them that not only was I deeply disappointed in their behavior, I was canceling the movie we were going to watch and assigning them extra homework…
So maybe instead of pretending to make a principled stand you should say “I’m going to watch Stanley Kubrick’s films because I like them and don’t really care that much about Shelley Duvall.”
My biggest issue with Clockwork is that he decided to cut the final chapter from the book which closes out Alex’s character arc. Leaving it out undermines the entire idea and irony of the home invasion and all the subsequent events.
I can’t watch him. From all the way back in the primaries, listening to him makes me viscerally angry.
One of my english teachers has a class that’s basically just gifted (i.e. fuck around and do whatever you want because you have straight A’s) and the day after the election they asked if they could make some posters and she has them hanging up and I was tearing up looking at them. We have over 50% english language…
“the public’s weariness with Progressive outrage culture”
Also, Melania’s eyes have murder in them. She is PISSED.
Lindsay Graham is, I think, at Joe Biden levels of not giving a fuck and will hopefully caucus with the Democrats every once in a while.
My first thought when I saw this was “Awww, have we hurt the poor president’s fee-fees?”
I think that this sketch (especially in light of the results) actually has a lot to say about class and race and where they intersect and where they viciously break down.
I was listening to an interview, I forget with whom, on NPR yesterday morning and she called Trump voters racist. The host said “Well we can’t jump to that conclusion.” And she cut him off and just said “No. I’m past this. We have to start calling things what they are.” He pushed her off the air within 15 seconds.
What if they refuse to go?
