Our Constitutional right to freedom of speech is implicitly and inextricably associated with a right to freedom of listening. The FCC doesn't seem to understand this.

Ugh. Q: Do gizmodo's writers not have any grey matter? A: Actually, they do. They're still able to sucker in readers like me with a line like "I can't understand how it works".

@OkayOctane: Instead of "taking a lead", I believe you mean copying a design. As Jobs said and Picasso said before him, "Bad artists copy, great artists steal." Google is in the former class.

If it ever becomes the norm? I guess none of us will ever know then, not in our lifetime.

Crazy how you can hear things break without seeing anything break!

ML: "We also run POSIX natively"

@JDickson87: If Apple has one, I don't believe we've seen its cloud strategy. In contrast, Google long ago revealed enough of its strategy and business model to know privacy doesn't exist with it. At a minimum, user data needs to be encrypted in the cloud and over the Intertubes, with the user holding the keys

Nothing is free about this. Google gets to watch your every move. Nuts to that.

"I really can't put my finger on it, why exactly I'm so impressed by all the new plant life in Google Earth"

@National Sarcasm Society: Don't worry, Republicans will soon move to privatize airport security. That will fix the complainers.

OMG!1! Opt-Out day is a complete bust, an utter FAIL. Will on-line media ever again have relevance? Today is their 9/11! Torpedoed by their own ambitions!!!! Razed by their own greed!!!!!

@The Lab: The cost of sequencing has fallen exponentially since its inception decades ago. (Celera/Venter made hay out of this by claiming to be able to sequence the human genome faster/better/cheaper than the public project, when in fact they were just relying on technology already being developed with public funding

Largest or heaviest?

@Slinkytech: Perhaps you've never been through Ben Gurion security or you just like being abused. It's not at all easy/comfortable/fast/nonintrusive.

Now that Blockbuster is out of the way...

@jglavin: No. Nothing lasts forever. Even if Apple is helping with the first incarnation, we can bet Murdoch has plans to offer content similarly to other manufacturers' devices. If people want to get in on the action early (or if people merely want to thank Apple for pushing the envelope and encourage them to push it

Will pilots again be able to carry booze on board if they're allowed to bypass security? I'm sure these scanners have seriously impeded the "mule" industry—the price of coke has hit the roof! It would be great to privatize the TSA—there is so much money to be made. Keep on complaining, people!

@not_a_virus.exe.vbs: No, I've been forever annoyed by it and just posed the question. Perhaps we could start a revolution and have such stupid, self-promotional crap stopped.
