“Merely steering away from suspected obstacles” is the best you can do if you actually believe that “LIDAR doesn’t need to recognize objects. It just needs to recognize surfaces.” I see you’ve dropped that argument and moved on to character assassination.

Your snark is profoundly uninformed.

Do you actually believe that’s what I wrote? That it’s unsafe to avoid obstacles?

As I said, uninformed snark.

Innumeracy has deadly consequences.

They’re not “safer than human drivers.” Don’t be taken in by bogus statistics that compare autonomous cars operating in extremely limited, ideal conditions to the accident rate of all drivers operating in all conditions.

A “surface” could be a drifting plastic bag. On the other hand, it could be a little girl.

Instead, autonomous cars will drift into your lane because they can barely discern “lanes” or “you.” Contextual scene recognition is nowhere near good enough.

Also unlike drivers, the signal processor connected to the LIDAR is dreadful at object recognition.

Really? My biggest fear is a sociopathic kid with l33t hax locks me into a fucking deathmachine headed for water/train crossing/a bridge/etc.

Absolutely nothing can go wrong with this.

Mine was $2k out of pocket, but I fortunately had a HSA at the time to cover it. MRIs are now on my list of procedures to avoid because I just can’t afford the copay:/

You can call your doctor and ask. Mine has priced out procedures for me before, and they generally understand that stuff is expensive and where you’re coming from in asking. They’ll probably have to talk to your insurance company and get back to you, but can give you an idea.

Had an X-ray on my shoulder 2 weeks ago a few days after I fell on it and they said I needed an MRI. 2 weeks after the injury I am certain I will probably require surgery, so waiting until next year, and hopefully better insurance, until I book the MRI and what comes after it.

I just found out I have an ACL tear... From at least 6 years ago... At least now I know why my knee doesn’t like to play nice sometimes.

I paid about $450 out of pocket for a shoulder MRI last month; my insurance is a BCBS PPO with a $1,000 deductible.

Couple of thoughts: I know some hoarders who have been okay when relocated. In this case, they went to Florida, they had a place to stay that was sparsely furnished, no one mentioned the clutter back home, and after a couple of months they were like: oh, we don’t care about any of that stuff, and the children were

You have tens of billions of dollars in profits made in foreign countries by your foreign subsidiaries that already pay foreign taxes.

It’s not quite that simple. Engineers develop many systems, that, used improperly, are illegal. These charges make Liang accountable for the use of the system, not just the design. The guilty plea here suggests that Liang knew the intended use of the defeat device, but it’s still troubling. All management needs to do
