This is all around a good thing. By Apple having that limited POS on their devices they keep Google from pushing out a better version (redundancy). By dropping it and using their own solution they free up Google to release a decent map app on iDevices.

...and if it's ugly then I'll promptly replace it right back with the old one. Which btw, can also be done on non jailbroken devices.
