The things that were tapping into the same vibe as Mad Men before Mad Men came along are much more interesting to me, like Down With Love and Darwyn Cooke's The New Frontier.

It also had a great example of why the character work that the first season sometimes seemed uninterested in is so important. Because of the friendship between Bobbi and Simmons that's been established, as well as Simmons' questioning of Coulson's approach to superhumans, there was real suspense in the scene leading

I went to a stop on the Black Angels/Roky Erickson concert tour last year only to see opener Roky.

I don't have the stamina to go through all the previous posts, so my apologies if anyone else has called out the kick-ass version of "Lightning Strikes (Not Once But Twice)" from The Clash on Broadway box set, which shined a spotlight on a song that otherwise got lost in the sprawl of Sandinista.

So far, I've found that the best browser for playing Yahoo Screen content is Google Chrome, which seems ironic.

Rick Veitch did a Moby Dick/whales in space story for Epic Illustrated back in the 80s. Since it was Rick Veitch, it contained such things as Ishmael's skin being peeled off at the end of the first chapter and some shenanigan's with giant fornicating Shmoos.

I suspect Barsanti has never heard of Imperial Teen, otherwise he would've mentioned them - it's only the critically acclaimed band that Roddy Bottum actually leads, after all. Not the one where he's just a sideman.

"An earthbound, steampunk adventure…"

That was always Bill Macy's gift as an actor - he seems like the most inconsequential guy in the picture until you realize he's stolen every scene he's in from the bigger stars. When I think about My Favorite Year, I always recall Macy being in it before I remember Peter O'Toole was in it, too.

I watched on an ancient Macbook, and aside from rough transitions in and out of the commercials, everything worked swell for me.

"Working with a main ensemble of four saps…"

"Lexington Comic and Toy Convention (motto: “A sensible way for adults to spend money”)."

So what you're saying is that Kraftwerk and Power Station were the same band? Man, they had wide range! "Some Like It Hot" sounds nothing like "Autobahn."

I firmly believe that the best thing Madonna could do at this point would be to give up trying to keep pace with the Lady Gagas and Nikki Minajes of the world and just give her brother-in-law Joe Henry a call and say "Joe, produce me an album that sounds like nothing I've ever done before."

Argh. You are correct. I had forgotten that in last week's episode she was upgraded from standing around at the back of a large group to standing around at the back of a smaller group.

Speaking of the cast getting unwieldy, it looks like next week the writers remember that Father Gabriel is a character on the show. I wonder if they'll ever remember that Tara is?

I particularly liked the "Kimmy At Long Last Has No Sense of Decency!" episode.

I don't know what it is about the name Taylor that spurred tv writers to create thoroughly decent men, but the character whose right up there for me with Coach Eric Taylor is Sheriff Andy Taylor from the Andy Griffith Show.

Seriously, anyone actually interested in a Wes Anderson X-Men story needs to seek out the Gerard Way/Gabriel Ba Umbrella Academy graphic novels. They're pretty damned excellent, and the most frequent description of them has been "What if the kids in the Royal Tenenbaums were the X-Men?"

I was a freshman in high school in 1977-78, and those years were heady times for ye olde comic book/sci fi nerds. Star Wars had become the biggest movie in history, Close Encounters was a big hit, and they spawned all manner of offspring in the movies and tv.
