The first two words of the headline work just fine on their own. Every day. For almost every story.
The fact that you are not well off doesn't make you some kinda Saint who gets to decide what is a moral use of money and what isn't. I can't afford an $80,000 wedding either, but I'm not going to look down my nose at someone else who can. I'd love to be able to host such a fabulous party for the people I love most in…
Exactly. I grew up quite poor as well - like, we're talkin' Mom bought KAM, the SPAM knockoff and reused coffee grinds kinda poor. But instead of being resentful about it, I put on my big girl panties, put myself through school using student loans, scholarships and good ol' fashioned part time and summer jobs. I'm…
And I can't vote only on the issues that matter to me because this isn't a democracy
Yes. Time is the only thing that you can never, ever get back.
Years ago a coworker (who was a great cook) said she would rather buy a cake to bring to a potluck, than make one, because she didn't have the time. "But you could save money!" said the young and naive Carol Burnett lover. "I would rather buy back my time. I can get more money, but I can't get more time," she…
Being pedantic here, but technically, the divorce rate in the US has never been that high :) The highest its been is about 40% for black americans with a high school education. If you've gone to college no matter your race, the divorce rate is closer to 20%. I don't want to go into tons of detail, BUT, so you know!
Let me give you some advice. My parents came from middle class backgrounds and managed to make themselves quite poor; I'm clawing my way up into the middle class, having come from poverty. Focus less on making a dramatic display about being poor, and resenting people for not being poor and thus being able to have…
Sound slike I need to get into the Jelly making business.
I'll never understand why people don't value their time more. You can get more money. You can get more things. You can never get more time.
So it is what I thought. Thanks for the clarification.
1) Pork is simple: "Pork barrel is the appropriation of government spending for localized projects secured solely or primarily to bring money to a representative's district." That's it. Simple and easy.
Oh, okay. They are offering services in exchange for goods? This I'm somewhat okay with, although I find bartering inherently annoying. If it had been one of those "go into a retail establishment that has absolutely no history of bartering being a legit tool of trade" and haranguing some poor clerk/clerk's manager…
Hmm...so then your issue is with the whole wedding industry complex and any sort of consumerism that isn't exactly what you prefer, not this specific wedding...
How is it immoral? Chances are, it'll cost them less time/money to produce the commercials than the $80k. Businesses were probably willing to take the deal because of the projected reach to new clients. As long as the clients earn back however much their service would've cost from the business created by the…
I assume they approached vendors who were not already clients. This system gets them (the couple) new clients, and establishes a relationship they can all take advantage of in the future. I can totally see how this would be profitable in the long run.
immoral? relax, they didn't spend your money.
They had one marketable skill and used it to get everything they needed. To anyone who says film school doesn't pay off...
The irrationality of the voter is pretty well-studied: http://archive.wilsonquarterly.com/essays/irratio…
