Also I thought the USversions's VHS footage was faux-scary. Ringu's video looked like a 10th generation German art film spliced with snuff footage.

So many Japanese stories sound interesting and amazingly-well written until you remember that, to get there, they almost always employ magic that makes no sense, even at a sci-fi fantasy level.
Musicians know that trance-like zone that occurs when playing a steady groove. I envy Jaki because he probably reached that state more than any rock drummer ever.
It also had a truly ominous trailer that showed all the early suicides in the film… basically all scenes from the first 20 minutes without a hint of the schlock to come.
Bernie Mac would get on stage and literally say, "Chinese people…muhfuckas be like, 'Ching chang chong'…" He had no joke or even end to that sentence, it was just LOL Chinese people.
Gildan t-shirts are stiff, coarse, burlap sacks. I am not happy that their empire is growing.
This is the exact reason I've always hated death of the author. Anyone who creates art is open to slander and misrepresentation by an idiotic audience.
Criticizing Twitter as a playform is more like saying "tabloids are bad" or "bathroom grafitti is sometimes funny but mostly stupid". All media are not inherently deserving of respect.
To me the unreality of superhero movies starts getting stupid when dozens of heroes coexist in the same universe. Like, we're getting to the point where in these worlds a significant portion of the population has mutant powers and/or are aliens. Practically weekly, space squids arrive on earth, heroes stage giant…
That's a great argument for why the afterlife is appealing, but not evidence that proves it's true. The afterlife is especially appealing if your time on earth sucked…but Carrie and Debbie did better with their precious time here than 99% of all humans.
I don't like the cartoonishness of his recent stuff: ski chases, people being struck by lightning, severed heads. I liked that his first few movies had quirks, but the 3 most recent are too outlandish for me.
My dongle! (Really)
I'm trying to stay positive too, but in relative terms. I truly beleive I'll see civil war or global war in my lifetime, but I guess there's a fairly low chance I'll personally be killed..? Hooray?
Yeah, that seemed like a stretch. Have we heard any update on this situation from an objective source?
I will say this though, for the first month or so of iPhone 7 ownership, it seemed like a never-ending obstacle course of things I could no longer do with my phone. The last straw was out working with my wife's small business when a customer asked if she could pay with a debit card. "Sure!" my wife said, then her face…
The thinkpieces here are nothing compared to other sites. The Ayatollah's headlines sound straight outta Slate or Vulture.
My favorite story about Reed is that he hated the "Brady family installs a pay-phone" idea so much that he refused to be in the episode. He's away on business and we only hear his voice on a phone call. Of all the idiotic episodes, it amuses me that that one was a bridge too far.
"Reasons of State" is the worst title I've ever heard.
Well yeah if you want to make the leap to the symbolic meaning of the land culture as a whole, there's definitely a metaphor there. But in reality a person unthinkingly knocked over a rock, so I don't think it rises to the level of colonization.
I am of two minds here: Her LOL attitude is pretty stupid and rednecky. But it is really only offensive to people who believe in magic rocks.
