Out of curiosity, what specific reason compelled you to include snatch-grip DLs in your routine? There’s nothing wrong with them, per se, but all of the issues that you mention about mobility, grip, and discomfort, are going to be exacerbated by that lift much more than a traditional DL. The form required for snatch

A fail on the bench press definitely feels the scariest (squats a close second), and for good reason. The roll of shame sucks, and it is going to hurt a bit more if you’re working over 200lbs. Very few gyms seem to have bench press rigs with safeties, and if you can’t get into a power rack, you’ve got a few options.

Wait, why would they be bringing in both hex plates and a platform? That seems counterproductive, right?!

I like to cast a hex while playing DnD.

Every diet works for some people some of the time. But people’s cultish obsession with any given diet, and their endless defense of its merits is what we’re talking about. Just age old hucksterism.

Keto was just the latest branding of the same basic (bullshit, pseudo-science) diet that has been making the rounds for the past 35+years under different monikers. Zone, Atkins, South Beach, Paleo... they have some subtle variations, but they all push that same absurd premise. Watching someone’s head nearly explode

Pay at the register IN CASH! I’ve been trying to tell people for years how prolific the card hacking is at gas stations, no matter if it’s at the pump or inside. Just plan ahead to have enough cash to fill the tank (if needed) and eliminate the risk.

So, it’s different and weird, which is sometimes good in its own right. But is there any reason to do these from a practical training standpoint - do they offer any muscular engagement that a standard deadlift doesn’t? Because I mostly see opportunities to twist my back, pull a hamstring, and hit myself in the balls.

Shirt in a can!

Crossfit is like the antithesis of best practices for weight lifting.

Chalk was a game-changer for me, particularly on dead lifts, and also when I do a body-weight routine with several sets of pull ups, muscle ups, etc. My gym removed the communal chalk bag, but technically they don’t ban anyone from using their own (in a respectful/tidy manner.) I tried the liquid chalk, but it’s not

Leto plays Joker to horrible reviews, stands by claim his version was epic, still tries to shut down reboot/competition, only furthering the public’s dislike of his portrayal and him as a person. Genius move, bro.

Several years ago while dealing with some health issues I was forced to come up with home workouts in lieu of the gym. My routine was usually an interval of: 2 min jump rope (which does demand a house/apartment that can accommodate it), pull ups, mountain climbers, double-crunches, staggered push ups, kettlebell

A member at my gym brought in a new-to-us grip attachment for the cable systems last year, and left it for about a week. Everyone went ape-shit over it after trying it, but then he returned and reclaimed it. Upon googling it and finding the seller, I discovered it was a small but very cool company making ergonomic

closet-meathead answered this best. As a gym employee, I understand why we generally can’t allow barefoot lifting due to technical standards of safety and the idea of cleanliness, but it’s also a very functional way to plant yourself on the ground for deadlifts. And there’s absolutely nothing gross or unhygienic about

Blue light has always been the red herring in this situation, as you point out. Staring at a really bright, very small screen with small text, that’s close to your face in an otherwise dark room at night before sleep, however....yeah, that’s just obviously bad for you. I get so tired of seeing cherry picked,

I definitely appreciate the openness of making mental health resources available to the public, particularly for people who are just beginning to address issues, or who might be unsure of their own well being (or lack there of). But it’s hard to look at these tests and feel like they do little more than offer

I think the idea of needing entertainment while you’re in the gym (like between sets) is something we need to move away from. Listen to music or don’t, but unless you’re doing a powerlift at near max weight that requires a significant rest between sets, you really only need 1-2 min - and if you can’t sit still, chat

To that point, you need to assume that at least 1 of 3 people who may have just used the equipment had also just used the bathroom, blown their nose, scratched their crotch, or in some other way has potentially fresh germs on their unwashed hands that they’ve transferred to the machine. I’m not super concerned about

I’m curious what kind of gym you attend where you experience this behavior? Not doubting you, but there must be a lot of assholes at your gym, as I never encounter that level of judgment at any gym I’ve belonged to. Are you saying people verbally scorn you for your size/weight, or just that you feel like they are?
