I thought he looked like a stone cold pimp/velvet gangster, with a touch of vampire badass thrown in, and I didn’t even see it as a “gown”, so much as just a piece of haute couture! (And since we’re identifying ourselves, arbitrarily, to validate our opinions, I’m a boringly straight man who basically lives in surf sho

Absolutely, failure is an essential, integral part of strength training. And physiologically, it is what causes muscle growth - those muscle fibers being taken past their natural limits, breaking down and reforming stronger. However, I see a ton of shit form and sloppy lifting at my gym that is presumably carried out

I’d argue about movie theater popcorn being the best. The most addictive, sure, but by that measure, meth is the best drug. Anyway, you don’t need most of those items. Coconut oil, yes. But a standard deep cooking pot w/ a lid will work fine to pop the kernels in oil. As for flavoring, branch out, try making your own

As you and others point out, there’s a sweet spot between thrift and trash. When it comes to a home gym, I have found that the Goldilocks-zone exists not in necessarily buying low-end equipment, per se, but in buying USED mid-range equipment off FB Marketplace (or previously Craigslist). When it comes to a weight

I don’t like to shame people’s tattoos, but... he looks like a 2 page ad from the tattoo shop’s sample book. It’s like that scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall when she makes fun of Russel Brand’s ensemble of unrelated tats. Now if that’s what you like, cool, free world & all - but it does somewhat look like a college

Well, that was disappointing... I’ve got a functioning imagination, and can visualize well enough how I’ll look in shoes - that’s not the problem. The value would be an app (of obviously much higher tech) that realistically determines the way your foot would fit in any popular shoe to help you get the correct size for

Yes, gym class/PE fucking sucked - we all know, we all remember, and seemingly had the same cliche experience of it’s suckage. But the problem is with its curriculum and structure, not with the basic concept itself. Childhood obesity in this country is at an all-time high, as is depression and other mental health

So let me give you an example of some gray area material. Tuesday, I indirectly referred to a certain POTUS as “white trash” on Facebook (full comment was: “Proof that you don’t have to be poor to be white trash”), and was promptly flagged for hate speech, had the comment blocked, and even upon review, that position

If there’s one thing the fitness community loves, it’s a flashy sounding, overly simplified bandwagon concept to jump aboard and ride with ridiculously smug confidence. The “fat burning zone” is no different. Everyone joining those Orange Theory gyms, or using machines with those built in programs, have taken the bait

I’m a big advocate of this approach. Gym fit is a great thing, but we tend to train our bodies to expect to perform in very small, concentrated windows of time after a perfect warm-up, maybe some pre-workout or supplement, etc, and then sit idle the rest of the day. So, in addition to helping break through one’s limits

Well, I’ve got about a 20 year head-start on this one, so I just call it life. You know, the “Paying for gas with pennies, only indulging in the occasional non-walmart brand of salad dressing twice a year, never going out, driving an old ass car, clothes from thrift store, guilting myself over buying a new can

To be clear, I genuinely despise Tr_mp and everything about his administration. And there’s always a new (and completely legitimate) grievance to be lodged against him. But in this instance, if there was any concern of revealing secret information, wouldn’t SOMEBODY else have objected to the pictures being taken at

Watched this yesterday, and walked away with a more powerful sense of indifference than I’ve felt in response to any film in a long time - at least, one with so much potential and initial hype. If you didn’t know that this had been produced by such a seasoned crew of writer/director, you’d think it was a bunch of

Ok, I mean, cool and all, but... I’m not seeing anything distinctly new or different. Maybe it’s in the details, and can’t be gleaned from a trailer. Get Out succeeded because it did something unexpected. What’s the unique angle in this? Not to be mistaken, definitely going to see this, but with cautious optimism.

Social responsibility doesn’t always mean giving people the answers... Sometimes, it means letting the gullible ones take the bait. Don’t help them out, dude. If people want to believe in ankle scarves, or be outraged by these imaginary items, you need to just let these hapless lobsters cook in the slow-boiling water

I have to nitpick this one. It was so disappointing to see the utterly exhausted cliche of the slicked-back hair, toothpick-chomping, and inexplicably Brooklyn-accented bad guy stereotype trotted out in about as unexciting a manner as possible, more or less like a r/starterpack meme. Valdes is a so-so actor in his

I’m always curious about the appeal of fitness apps & trackers - as someone who’s never used one, but is familiar with how they work, I don’t see the advantage. That’s not to suggest there isn’t one, I just don’t get it. Is it more of a fun novelty that gives people motivation, or do you feel that it somehow

Over the years, I’ve gone through phases of running with and without music, and it seems like my mind/body is good at letting me know when I need a break from the tunes. For a while, I was obsessively curating running playlists to the point of remixing songs to change tempo, loop favorite segments, and constructed the

Looks like you are emotionally attached to the criticisms received from that post about the presidential emergency alert. I didn’t read that post, but it just looks like it.

I’ve been on a slow but upward trend for a few months with benching and other lifts in general, but this past month I did make some improvements. My 4 rep weight from Oct is now 8-9 reps, and my 2 rep weight is now at 5-6 reps. Haven’t retested my max in a few months, but it’s hopefully up as well.
