Now that I’m older I understand what’s going on in that scene, and what I’m looking at, but when I was a kid I had no idea what I was looking at, and it really broke my brain, like “What the fuck is going on there!?”

The summer I was 20 and home from college my buddy got me on with a road-construction crew. Told me (correctly) that it really sucked but the money was good. I was a flagger, which meant I would stand in the same spot for several hours under the hot sun (during heatwaves, news crews often interview road crews),

Many cultures have a legend about a missing-link creature that exists unseen in uninhabited areas. It makes me wonder if perhaps at one time they did exist.

During tonight’s episode, did anyone else, at the explosion, see the infamous piece of graphite fly through the air and linger on the screen? I could’ve sworn I saw that, and it caused me to laugh loudly (although not out of disrespect... it was more of a nervous laughter).

The whole country has Chernobyl fever!

Re: CLERKS 2

“Problematic” means bad, right?

I’m a fan of Donna Tartt and was glad to see her get the success of “The Goldfinch,” but I’m really on the fence about whether or not to see this. I’ve followed this model (not seeing a movie) with other books I liked, such as “American Pastoral.” Sometimes I just can’t past the fact that the film of a book is really

This really is becoming a word-of-mouth type show. I’ll be interested to read the AVC review... incidentally, as others have pointed out, also listen to the podcast with the writer. There’s a podcast episode for each show episode, and it really enhances the experience.

I think there was a bit of a car chase involved re: how they got away. It was basically a moment of opportunity (albeit pre-arranged), and the guys tasked with guarding them gave chase... of course the guys who let them get away probably knew that was the end of them back in North Korea.

My opinion, but I was just saying that “Chernobyl” is a very ‘adult’ show (which is why I like it). We live in a time right now where what used to be thought of as kids entertainment and adult entertainment have kind of morphed into one thing, and that thing is definitely the AV Club’s wheelhouse... so while I went

I think the most exciting exchange is when they’re in the helicopter and the high-ranking official tells the pilot to fly right over the reactor, and Harris tells him it would mean their deaths. The official tells him “Fly over it or I’ll have you shot!” and Harris one-ups the threat by yelling “If you fly over it by

“[laughs] It’s true, we are so lame!”

“Alfonso [Cuarón] had Roma and Mexico City, 1970. I had L. A. and 1969. This is me. This is the year that formed me. I was six years old then. This is my world...”

It depends if you’re looking at it through a 2019 lens or a mid-80s lens. Many of the laws in place now were not in place back then, and I don’t think the culture-at-large would’ve looked down on it (ironically, those who most would have looked down on it were conservative Christians).

Damn I disagree.

Hell, I don’t think it should’ve been made the first time... ha ha.

My wife just dragged me to a theater showing of “Steel Magnolias” like, three hours ago. Never seen it before.

Am I the only one whose ad just to the left of the polar bear picture is an ad for Klondike?

Yes, he’s basically part of the first-wave of Trump-White-House denizens who were shit-canned and are now trying to parlay that into a career (see also: Sean Spicer and Steve Bannon).
