“...or ‘Grimey,’ as she liked to be called,”
“Bangor? I barely know her!” - John Lithgow, full Mainer
It’s a damn good thing you don’t know how much I hate your guts.
Making one’s employees “independent contractors” is one of the most pervasive bullshit tactics used by unethical bosses.
Happened to me a while ago... and I’m strangely okay with it.
For the last 20 years or so I’ve always had fun listening to pundits/talkers, even local ones, to try and figure out how much it’s an act. For example, when Glenn Beck rose so quickly some 10 years ago, there were ample signs that his schtick was an act.
“What level of influence did he ever have?...how many people were/are actually latching on to him?”
I recall that in what I’d read about him. It’s like, he seemed only to take partial pleasure in TZ’s outright victories, but stewed in its less-than-outright-victories.
It’s obvious what this is (which is fine), but at first I thought it would be more about just the adjustment of staying in the woods.
This guy’s ascension was one of the more off-putting things about the last four years. In looking for things to be comforted by (challenging this week), at least one is that he ended up falling on his ass.
Yeah, don’t have anything original to add, but this guy was truly an auteur. I still remember the radio spots (somewhat incorrectly, I bet), “If you see The Stuff in your local supermarket, call the police!”
Whether it’s these attacks on the fact that AOC had, like, a job, or Donald Trump Jr. publicly calling teachers “losers,” the Republicans’ “We’re the party of the working man/woman!” is a mask that slips as easily and often as the “We’re the party of personal accountability!” one.
“Those clowns in Congress are at it again... What a bunch of clowns.”
Michael Larson’s story is fascinating, but there’s some real “Rashomon” shit going on there, i.e., I’ve seen the story of he and PYL told in a light, fun way, and also told in a pretty dark way... and neither are necessarily wrong.
Like many, I suspect, I didn’t pay attention to this story when it broke this morning because it was reported kind of tepidly... but over the next few hours it became jaw-dropping... Now I’m really thinking this might be end up being known as a scandal that majorly undermined the perception of our society as a…
I randomly stumbled across this video several months ago... it’s friggin’ excellent! I can’t believe how much that guy hits the mark, re: the continued existence of The Simpsons. I was pretty much pumping my fist in the air several times during his presentation.
I recall how in the spring of ‘94 there was a barrage of excellent albums released within a few weeks of each other... Hell, within several days. Beck’s “Mellow Gold,” one of the strangest major-label debuts ever, came out March 1. Soundgarden’s “Superunknown” and Nine Inch Nails “The Downward Spiral” came out on the…
Yes his soundtracks (going by “The Doom Generation” and “Nowhere”) were great. It was also at a time when you couldn’t just get free, unlimited music online, so that a guy had knowledge of all these bands and really deep cuts was impressive.
He is not Jesus... but he has the same initials.
It was a bizarre reverse-Spinal Tap. I remember hearing some story involving a friend of Boy George or something but who was dating a member of Bush, and everyone’s reaction was ‘never heard of ‘em,’ but someone explained that they were hugely successful in the U.S.
