This. Advent Rising was way, way more the thing that tanked Majesco. They had it planned out for a trilogy, splurged needlessly on Orson Scott Card (*spits*), had it made by a graphics design studio, hyped it to shit and delivered a subpar product (not to mention the Xbox version was terrible). Same thing with

Yeah, that’s not the greatest comparison. There is some superficial similarity in that the city “governments” are very much ruthless totalitarians but the endgame of the Fireflies isn’t just dropping them, it’s trying to rebuild society as it were which is impossible.

Their two big releases of 2022 was a vibrant open world game about a brave woman and her friends reclaiming the world against cynicism and a colorful action game about a bad man learning to forgive himself and abandon the violence of his past, but go off

It had a steady audience, got awards, it was the breakout show for a couple of folks (namely Adam Driver, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Williams herself), it was cheap to make, it was written about often by critics and provoked a lot of think pieces. That’s it, and that’s a pretty considerable “it”.

The rules are fairly loose but sometimes keeping their spirit can lead to fun things. Like, say, a possibly demonic goblin man getting away with kicking someone else’s teeth out of someone’s mouth.

A shame too because it’s a brilliant game, one of my absolute favorites of last year. It’s also likely the closest to the sadly departed Mario & Luigi series of RPGs we’ll ever get at this point, so I hope for its success.

I’ll never forget when Fallout 1, isometric Fallout not FPS, let you kill a kid...but then that branded you as a child killer and it affected the entire game. Everyone in town knew and either attacked you or didn’t want to work with you because of it.

Not if it’s part of the attire or person, I believe. It’s how Danhausen bends the rules by bringing a jar of teeth to the ring in standard matches - teeth are already part of the competitors, so they are legal. I believe even famous racist/sexist/wrestling gatekeeper Jim Cornette admitted this logic is perfectly

I find it amazing that Netflix is shooting itself in the foot with a shotgun and instead of capitalizing on that, HBO Max rushes for the sawed-off to take out its own knee.

Said complex gets that even things that rag on it are ultimately doing them a favor. Video games especially because violence and conflict are the medium’s bread and butter.

Signalis is not on this list, therefore it’s wrong

Thank God for “dismiss”

Quite possibly, but I am so used to the typical executive spiel that a guy coming out and saying “yeah that’s bullshit” is almost revolutionary

It’s nice to see the Kotaku comment section without the usual AI art simps, at least for a bit

That sucks and is frankly kinda weird, what was the point of the Black Adam tease if they aren’t going to even make a transition from old Supes to the new one?

It’s honestly quite refreshing that Gunn seems to be cutting through the bullshit wherever possible.

Teaser looks alright but idk, I didn’t love the new cast from 5 and seeing Scream without Sidney seems kinda lame. At least Kirby’s back.

I hate Avatar.

The changes to FF7's story made in the Remake aren’t on Nomura, not really. He and Naoki Hamaguchi were in favor of doing a straight retelling - it was Kitase and Nojima who pushed him to go post-modern with it and they wanted to go even weirder with it, until they made a compromise.

I think it’s just the problem with Zack who speaks in a somewhat flat, conversational tone. It worked for FF7R’s Cloud because everyone else is very animated (Barrett especially, who often sounds like a preacher or salesman until he starts dropping the act later in the game, which was a great choice and fantastic
